Rijeka 2020 - Why you should absolutely visit the European Capital of Culture

Rijeka 2020 - Why you should absolutely visit the European Capital of Culture

Discover the “Port of Diversity”

Cosmopolitan, liberal and young - this year, the city of Rijeka officially bears the title of the “European Capital of Culture”!
At the opening ceremony, the “Opera Industriale” transformed the harbor into an impressive stage. Classic instruments paired with electric guitars and chants formed a sound of industry with elements of punk rock, an allusion to the industrial tradition and its enormous influence on the vibrant cultural scene of the pulsating metropolis in the Kvarner Bay.

The slogan is “Port of Diversity”. An excellent choice! Where else can you find shipyards, buildings from the Habsburg era, Italian promenades and castles in one city? Rijeka has a very special charm! :)

The Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka in Kvarner bay

As the European Capital of Culture, it will be the linchpin of the arts this year. A diverse and extensive culture and art program, which includes more than 600 events, should attract visitors from all over the world and leave nothing to be desired. Are you staying in one of our luxurious villas in Istria or the Kvarner region this year? Then you should definitely not miss this opportunity.

Art lovers can learn more about the works of young Klimt at the exhibition “Unknown Klimt: Love, Death, Ecstasy”. Do you like to go to the theater? Richard Wagner's opera “Tristan and Isolde”, directed by Anne Bogart, will be performed for the first time in the history of the Croatian National Theater “Ivan Zajc”.

Lovers of classical music can look forward to the gala concert of the world-famous mezzo soprano Elina Garanca. Friends of modern dance will also get their money's worth. The choreographer Andonis Foniadakis leads the audience into the magical world of water with his contemporary ballet “Burning Water”.

A cultural event, which is indispensable for Rijeka, is the traditional carnival parade, combining Venetian and Austrian carnival traditions with elements of Slavic folklore and mythology.

All of this and much more awaits you. Enrich your vacation in one of our villas with a day trip to Rijeka. Sail into the “Port of Diversity”! You will certainly not regret it. :)
