When asked about the most
famous Istrian products, most people first think of
typical delicacies such as
ombolo, truffles, boskarin cattle etc., which we have already introduced in our Guide. After presenting the local wine varieties of the Istrian peninsula which have achieved great success and recognition worldwide it is about time to present the you
favourite drink of the locals.
The famous Pasareta or Pasareta is a
glowing red non-alcoholic beverage. Even in the depth of winter, a sip of the Istrian ambrosia will remind you of a sunny summer day. The simple mixture of sugar, water and fruit aroma is produced by a
local family company Ferencic from Pazin, which is in the non-alcoholic beverages industry since 1924.
Although their offer consists of other interesting drinks such as
Oranzada (orange flavoured drink) and
Tonic, it was Pasareta that launched the family company from
Pazin into the refrigerators of almost all Istrian cafes and bars. Local residents even prefer their “
liquid treasure” to world-famous soda drinks such as Coca-Cola, Sprite or Fanta.
Due to its popularity in whole Istria, Pasareta is rightly considered to be one of the
true symbols of the biggest croatian peninsula. You may have difficulties ordering Pasareta in other parts of the country. The family Ferencic never actually invested into advertisement or any type of marketing for their products. The product reaches its customers (and feature fans)
by word of mouth only.
The extent of the popularity of this product is evidenced by the play named “
Operation Pasareta”. This homage to Istrian dialect and customs has been preformed in theatres throughout Croatia.
Use the opportunity to get a sip of the famous Pasareta during your stay in
one of our luxury villas in Istria and refresh yourself on a hot summer day with the 100-year-old istrian ambrosia.
