The island of Losinj is located in the
Kvarner Bay. Losinj is known for its
beautiful beaches, promenades and bike paths. Due to unique climate, numerous medicinal plants and
wellness offer, the island is recognised worldwide as
The Island of Vitality. The tradition of health tourism in the Kvarner Bay dates back more than 125 years.
The smell of pine forests as a
symbol of the island of Losinj, together with the scent of medicinal herbs and the smell of the sea, form a
unique aromatherapy. While discovering the island, you will be amazed by the
colourful plants that bloom at different times of the year. In May, sage turns the island purple, in June medicinal lavender and immortelle bloom, pink bougainvillea in July, and in August Olenadri.
In addition to its
unique flora, the island is also known for
dolphins that live in the Losinj area. With the help of the Adriatic Dolphin project, the Blue World Institute is researching the life of dolphins in the Adriatic Sea. Thanks to the institute, the Losinj dolphin is the
most researched species in the entire Mediterranean. Today there are around 200 dolphins in the region. If you want to see dolphins in their natural habitat and have a
unique experience, you can join observations organised by the Blue World Institute. You can find more information at https://www.blue-world.org/about-us/blue-world-limited/.
For all lovers of
culture, the island of Losinj offers many sights and
events worth visiting. One of the most famous attractions is certainly the
bronze statue of Apoxyomenos. The statue was found in 1999 between the islands of Vela Orluja and the island of Losinj. It is believed that Apoxyomenos was thrown into the sea in the early 1st century, as a sacrifice to the
gods for a safe voyage. The statue is completely preserved and located in the museum of the same name in
Mali Losinj. More information can be found at https://www.muzejapoksiomena.hr/en/.
If you want to spend your vacation
actively, the island of Losinj offers many sport activities such as
swimming, cycling and hiking trails. The island of Losinj organises two cycling
races in April, in which many
mountain and downhill cycling enthusiasts part take. Cycling routes on the island of vitality are one of the most attractive and least demanding cycling routes in the Kvarner region. Because of the flat terrain, the routes are
suitable for all age groups as well as for experienced and less experienced drivers. Bike paths are by the sea and offer a beautiful view of the entire
Losinj archipelago - the islands of Unije, Susak and Ilovik, as well as the islands of Rab, Pag and the Velebit mountain range.
